In the middle of my Ph.D., I worked on quantum-inspired classical signal processing with the Center for Quantum Research at UT's Applied Research Laboratories. We developed a mathemetical correspondance between classical noncoherent communication and ideas from quantum error correction, and we leveraged this framework to develop a family of noncoherent space-time block codes. The codes worked pretty well and have a simplified ML decoder.
This was joint work with Andrew Lanham [emphasis added], Brian La Cour, and Robert Heath Jr. We wrote this up here (it's open access).Â
